Welding question
I used my pro-mig Lincoln electric welder to install a patch panel on
my model a the other day. It has been a long time since I used this and I forgot to hook the bottle up to it. It is 75% percent argon and 25% carbon dioxde up. Question is should I start over with welding the panel again[LIST] Thank you for your help !! |

Re: Welding question
the gas acts as a shield, without it the weld may look terrible and not be sound.

Re: Welding question
My guess is that you already have the answer to your question. Go with it and you will be happier in the long run.

Re: Welding question
Without the Ar/CO2, the welds must look bad and have no strength. Grinding them will show lots of pin holes.

Having said that I would follow the #4 post. Then re-weld as necessary, be careful with the heat. |

Re: Welding question
agree with Birdman. You may have flux wire in the machine, it should have welded and looked like shit with the gas off. Check your wire spool.

Re: Welding question
Gosh I love my MIG (Lincoln SP135) The sound when you get it "right" (frying eggs) is like music to my ears.
Want to re-learn use of a MIG? Try welding aluminum using the special "kit" and pure argon. It works - kind of. Joe K

You may even see through the weld! Weld with porosity is NOT a good weld.. The fellow that did the welding,..Look up the word porosity. |

Re: Welding question
Welding aluminum with a mig just takes practice. I once welded two pop cans together with one.

Re: Welding question
Pin holes and bubbles galore when I forget to turn on the gas. It is very ugly without the gas and you can just break off a bolt welded to a piece of strap with it....
