Chief & I once did a Coupe top, using a NEW Cotton sack & coated it with that canned Roof Patching Tar, in a NO label can. Once it set awhile, we brushed it with an OLD STIFF brush & it looked like LOOOOONG GRAINED COPRA---LOL
BUT, it looked SUPER & didn't LEAK!
