Default So what can you tell me about this?

A guy I work with was cleaning out a neighbor's garage and dug this out. Pretty sure it's model A but beyond that, not sure. The exhaust manifold looks odd compared to pics I've seen...refering to the cooling fins. When I brought it home the engine was mounted to the frame shown, which has been welded to some angle iron for some sort of make-shift genset. There was a flat belt pulley with pillow block bearings attached to the trans output!

The strange looking manifold is an aftermarket manifold designed to be used with an aftermarket heater.

Yes, it is a model A power plant. I suspect it was mounted with that flat belt setup to power a cordwood saw, or some farm equipment like silo blower, etc. The manifold is irrelevant to the power unit setup, but was probably on the car it came out of, as an accessory heater. A cast iron cover went over the "waffle" on the manifold, and air was directed to the inside of the car by the radiator fan.

Your right Thats a Model A Engine !
Its got a heater manifold on it should have a cover on it, I think it's an Atwell Health Heater .
The frame is Model A but it's been chopped about to make an engine stand, looks like it was running a saw or generator who Knows ?

That's a nice find !!! Good luck to you another one saved!!!

You probably are right on the name of the manifold, it is like the one I have on my Pickup. The cover that go's on it is a Autolite

The manifold on that engine is the Autolite style, not the Ottwell health heater, which does not have a removable cover. The advantage of the Autolite is that the cover can be removed for summer. The Ottwell just had a trap door that was opened to vent the hot air before it entered the cab. It is common to find the Autolite manifolds without the cover, but the covers can be had. I also have some that were made to go on the stock original manifold, but they are not nearly as efficient as the Autolite, with the waffle.

Looking at the oil return pipe (above the center line) and the oil pan (no removable oil pump cover) I'd say the engine was built between Jan. 1929 and May 1929.

Of course these two parts are easily changed, so it's best to go by the serial number on the block, unbless that was restamped.
