Grease Job...
I was out in the garage today with a grease gun servicing my 48 Ford ...
I have two questions.... #1 Are there any fittings to grease at the rear wheel bearings,by the backing plates...I didn't see any... #2 The fitting that goes into the springs at the cross member just leaks...Can anything be done to seal that so grease will go into spring.... Thanks guys for the help ...carl

Re: Grease Job...
change the fitting and then have a friend with a hammer smack where the grease fitting is while you grease the fitting, if the channel for the grease is plugged the viberation from the hammer will usually loosen it and let the grease flow

Re: Grease Job...
Here's the lube chart for the rear. No grease fittings at the end of the axles. Just the three on the springs.
Here's the front end if you need that.

Re: Grease Job...
Where is the fitting leaking, perhaps the passages are blocked with grease, spring lube is thin, 75% ice machine oil --sometime a nick on the fitting can be smoothed out with sandpaper, or a coupler with a rubber insert can be used

Re: Grease Job...
I think the grease passages have long ago been blocked with old hardened grease. Covers were not a good long term idea. If the springs are not squeaking, forget about it. If they are, you are faced with a big job (remove the covers and take apart the spring to lube the contact surfaces). Springs on Super Deluxe models were cloth wrapped and incased in metal covers, so to remove them might be a point deduction in formal judging. John

Re: Grease Job...
I do not think the 48 Super Deluxe springs were wrapped. I have had mine since 65 and there was never any evidence they were wrapped.

Re: Grease Job...
These are wrapped....It wasn't the fitting itself leaking...The spring bolt " Nut" has the fitting ...I hafta say I didn't work real hard at it.....It was leaking between the nut and the spring itself.....I have even sprayed Kroil in areas like that and let it soak the caked grease....Then drive the liquid out with fresh grease...Good thing I went back under there tonight ....Spring U-Bolts took a few pulls on each ......Thanks everyone for their tips and comments .......It's great to have a group you can "bounce things off of"....
