Default Parking brake

Hi,
The parking brake on my ‘39 standard will not catch when pulled out. Would someone post a photo of the top side of the handle. Mine has a small plate with a flat spring attached with a hose clamp and it works, remove the hose clamp and the spring and it won’t catch.

I have photos but the site won’t upload them.

Let me know if 1939 is the same as the 1940 DeLuxe. If so, I will post lots of E-brake photos showing it's assembly. Here's a start.

Not to be picky but I believe the correct term is pawl.

I can't see where that spring goes on my 40. Is it hidden inside?

Does it actuate the metal "pawl" shown in 2nd photo?

I have the feeling that the small clevis pin with the small cotter pin goes thru that spring and that it rides on that pin.

Take photos as you disassemble and before things fly apart.

It is quite common for that spring to be broken. I made a spring out of spring wire and some heat. Not a great solution, nothing like the original. Who makes them? Good Luck: Fred A

Macs has them probably others. A well stocked local hardware probably hS something that would work with some creative bending. Easier if you have some of the old spring to match though

If the picture loads the pin/bolt that mounts the pawl goes through the spring inside the parking brake. The short end of the spring goes against the pawl the long end goes to a "tab" cut out of the parking brake "mount".
