Default V8 Model A

Is there any evidence that Ford tested a V8 in a model A before the 32 went into production?

I read a story a few years back about Henry testing their first V8 in a Model A. Supposedly, he drove the V8 equipped Model A down to Florida to his estate in Fort Meyer, Florida. It was a "secret" mission, and he was interviewed by reporters along the way, but never let on what was under the hood of that Model A, and supposedly the reporters never were the wiser. Can anyone else corroborate this?

It is true that Ford had a V8 as early as 1925 with the purchase of Lincoln, so the possibility of a V8 in a Model A was a very strong possibility.

There was also a V-8 tried out in the Model T as experimental. The steering column was
so close to the motor the head actually had a cut out or trough in it for the steering column.
So maybe on the V-8 in the Model A somebody must know.

The V8 in the Model T was made by a guy in California and Ford told him to stop. Ford did experiment with an X8 in the T era.

google mtfca; V8 or mtfca; X engine and you should find photos and info that has been posted on the Model T Ford Club of America forum over the years.

When they were available, the V-8-60 was the "hot" setup for a Model A!! Weren't very FAST, but they were VERY smooth & sounded GOOD!!
I know of a Guy that's been running the SAME V-8-60 in his Sport Coupe, since 1958!! Has headers & impressive sounding exhaust & "fakes" out a lot of people.

Was only reading a few days ago about the 1935 Ford - Miller cars that had the steering box too close to the engine.
The oil would overheat, leak out and the box would seize.

Ah, so that's why it is so hard to keep oil in the steering box of a Model A.

Read in one of my many Ford books, that Mike Peters post is true, but can't put my finger on which book to corroborate at this time. I will continue looking ASAP.

I wonder how many perfectly good '34's got shot up because of them? (The real one and countless fakes!)

Dunno if the fakes are countless but there are several - some aren't even 34s or Fords! There are period photos of the real one - pretty hard to match the bullet hole pattern and pretty easy to tell a fake because of it.

I have seen the real one when it was at a Primm casino.

Compared the real holes with the real pic of it at the shootout,

Every hole I saw was in the same spot, but i wasn't gunna go counting them all.

I have a V8-60 in a model A roadster. No speed demon or power house by any stretch, but looks cool. A stock Model B would win any contest without working up a sweat. Way cheaper to build also.
