Default What makes value?

While looking at Bring A Trailer auction site I noticed the PU listed in the link below. It sold for 20K a few months ago. On the same site there are other complete PU's that sold for around that price with one trending at auction now toward the 20K range.

I find it interesting what creates value in a particular vehicle over another that may be in much better condition. The PU in question has some graphics on the doors that may be real so maybe that is the value?

I guess I have to much time on my hands today.

This was discussed at the time, the logos on the vehicle are from a coal delivery business and it was bought by a modern fuel delivery business. Consensus was that the buyer was willing to pay a higher price for the unique connection and planned to write it off as a tax deduction for advertising.

I might be out of touch with reality. I see ads listing Model A pick up trucks, running,
driving, good paint, upholstery, tires, rust free, and new battery for 20 to 22K.

To finish the one shown in the link above would cost at least another 15 to 20K if you
did most of the work yourself. IMHO.

I agree with “Chance”. Your trash is my treasure. If buyer is happy, that’s all that really matters.

Years ago I over paid for a car that I really wanted. Glad I did. Still happy with it.

Enjoy.

That pickup sold for $25,000. In my opinion it was too much money. Auctions can be dangerous for the buyer as there can be a feeding frenzy. Ego comes into play and the act of beating out the other guy becomes important. On the other hand I am seeing the asking price of Model A's going up. I have no idea what they are selling for and I see some high price cars in the market for months.

The selling prices on Bring A Trailer seem always to be high. Maybe I should sell my car there and buy 2 to replace it.

Probably purchased by a hot rodder who will make a “derelict” type restoration and sell it on for even bigger money.

My understand is BAT doesnt just list any car. they are picky in what they take- just like some of the auction houses.
so the prices are generally for prestine vehicles. of course there are exceptions for the odd and curious types.
I remember BJ selling some woodies 10 yrs ago or so for over 200k.
today those same cars cant make 100k.
