Default Modern Points cross-reference

Started this post and got distracted so I hope I'm not doubling up here:

Please help me confirm or debunk an urban myth.
I have acquired some modern points distributor plates.

Years ago, old-timers would suggest that "why pay those high prices for the modern point from distributors. Just go to the parts store and buy points for a 19XX Ford ABC."

Is this correct and can I just buy points from RockAuto for $2 for a 19XX Ford ABC that will work?

Help me fill in the unknown year and model numbers folks. It looks like some of the available $2 points are similar but the setup is in reverse of the Model A distributor.

The so called modern points are said to be 1957 to 1977 , Ford V8 points . I tried the modern setup and had nothing but problems . If nothing else , the so called modern points are so much more difficult to set . The modern points haven't been used for over forty years and are not always that easy to find . I wouldn't use the modern points setup again if they gave them to me . I also have several of the breaker plates that I removed and replaced with original points for others . No one ever wanted the modern setup back , tyhey just said to keep them if I wanted or just throw them away !!!

good to know. I'll keep that advice in mind as I chug along.

I have plenty of original type stuff. Just tripping down memory lane.

I have had no issues with the modern points. been runnin them for many years now. The current problem at least here in the Northwest is Ford parts counters no longer stock them. Need to go online to find and purchase. summit, jegs, rock auto.

I've run modern points for years too and there is a supply in my workshop tht will see me out. I choose the vented type and consider them ultra reliable.

Are they Australian ones? Maybe Bosch? Between 2016 we've lost three manufacturers ...

All sorts, mostly the good Australian made ones.
