What type of scale is used to weigh pistoni & rods? thanks

Any accurate gram scale. The key is that it is repeatable meaning that you place an object onto its platform numerous times and each time it shows the same weight.

about how many grams does a piston or rod weigh? looks like scales are sold by weight ranges.

Les Andrews book says Pistons 476.8 grams but different manufacturers have different weights. I had two pistons in my car that differed by 100 grams
Connecting rods 623.7 grams Balance weight 552 grams +- 1 gram crank end, 198 grams +- 1 gram pin end |

There are different brands of scales but this is essentially what rod weighing looks like.
