Default Packing fender for shipping

Hi Barners,

Looking for suggestions on how to package a 1936 Ford Rear fender for shipping. I will suggest to seller that he use Greyhound. All ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Bruce/CT

Bruce, I have received fenders etc shipped via Greyhound. Some have been boxed or should I say "wrapped in boxes" while others were sent bare. I have not had a problem in any case.

I have received some wrapped in bubble wrap and plain plastic wrap. No problems with Greyhound.

I have shipped fenders using 1 layer of used carpet padding taped on and then shrink wrap.Greyhound was excellent service.

I rec'd two 51 Merc fenders wrapped in super large cardboard box from Mercuryland. No problem. Delivered by UPS. Make sure they are insured.

Wrap it good and box it if possible. Make sure you have the exact pickup point, many locations in the same town and what are there operating hours. Some shut down after long gaps in the arrivals and departures. Alot of part time help.

Your beef with UPS seems to be a common one. They simply don't pay claims,or it appears so.

Thumbs up Re: Packing fender for shipping

I have had great luck ,both shipping and receiving with Greyhound . Iwas told NO SHARP EDGES . Thats all they really care about ,it not ripping someones luggage. shrink wrap it and duct-tape the bejeasus out of it . I allso put a piece of strapping across the wheelwell(FRONT TO BACK) on the mounting side ,about halfway up .Helps keep it from wracking and it allso acts as a handle for the guys to grab

Today I recieved my '40 ford left rear fender from Tucson, Arizona here in Walla Walla, Washington via greyhound. It was shipped last monday. The seller picked up a box at a windshield place and modified it smaller to fit the size of the fender. Shipping was $55.70. Very pleased with greyhound.

Like the guys have said, Tape over all sharp edges.
Make sure you have extra shipping info on the fender,
in case the original comes off during shipping.
I received 2 front fenders(1947 Merc.) from Colorado to Illinois via Greyhound,
the stainless on the fenders had road rash on it, and one fender had lost it's address
info.

God Luck!

Greyhound has always worked good for me with fenders that fit in the UPS oversized catagory. I wrap them with the padding from Lazybor ceclined, then a wrap of cling wrap and some tape. Much easier than fighting with cardboard at that size and it still meets the requirements for insurance purposes should something happen. Best part is that it is usually free from the furniture stores as they generally throw it out anyway. Rod

Default Thanks again--WRITE SHIPPING ADDRESS ON PART

THANKS for all the input,
I spoke to the seller last night. He has used Greyhound successfully before. He said he will write my address directly on the fender plus the label. Good idea. He once had the wrapping ripped of and the part would have been lost had he not done this.
