Default 1937 Jack SJ 1839 Repair

This Auto Spec SJ 1839 jack made in Windsor Canada is seized by corrosion and hasn’t responded to penetrating oil.
Do any members have any experience on how to take this jack apart or get it moving without damaging it?

Did you try submerging it in a bucket of Evaprorust for a week or so.

My thoughts exactly.

Whatever rust remover you choose, you must first degrease the piece.

A little heat can do wonders.

"Rust-911" is a concentrate and quite a bit cheaper. It works the same way. I don't think it works quite as well as "Evaporust", but it's a less expensive alternative when medium to large things need to be soaked.

I use white vinegar, a gallon is only $3 . Works slow but easily cleaned every day to check .

From a safety perspective, I hope that your plans for the subject jack are appearance-oriented only and that you have no plans to use it as a jack per se

Thanks to all who replied. I now have the jack submerged in Evapo-Rust, after wire brushing the shaft and body entrances. This jack was in my coup’e when I got the car in 1973, it was seized solid, at that time. The jack is for show purposes only. I grit blasted and spray painted this jack previously, looks good but I would like to get it working if I can.
Can anyone give me any info on how these jacks were assembled and how to take it apart, if I do eventually get the rams to move?
