18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
Where can I get adapters for my aluminum 18mm heads, to use 14mm plugs, either 3/8 or 3/4" reach?

Not the right dude, so... Just no. Find the plugs. 14MM is not my style.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
Use the 18mm plug. Snyder's has adapters for the model a (18mm to 14mm). I use one for my compression checker.
https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/P...-a/spark-plugs 18mm Autolite 386 i think. Has the removal-able tops anyway to run raja ends. I can check. Aluminum 18mm is interesting anyway. Not sure the advantage on this conversion setup. But I don't know the setup you got running? . Last edited by Tinker; 08-11-2019 at 11:08 PM. |

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
My heads show a lot of corrosion in the spark plug threads. I'm wanting to play save and not sorry.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
Maybe Heli coil then. Bit of jump to 14mm. not sure if an adapter would help anyways...
18mm with some anti seize might work. but who knows what condition, your condition is in. |

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
Why would an adapter hold any better in the threads than a spark plug??

Because you no longer use the parent, aluminum threads.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
I thought this would be a "no brainer", install once, with hi temp, Loc Tite and never have to worry about damaging the threads, beyond what they are now.
I didn't think I would have opposition to saving the original, aluminum threads. Frank |

JS, where do you get that re-threading outfit. It looks like it could be used, if it large enough to repair a 18mm hole and uses a non-extended reach plug.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
You can just search Spark Plug Insets and you will get all kind of returns.
Here is a straight adapter 18mm to 14mm, but it does leave a lip where the installation nut is. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Spark-plug-...-/141025801312 Last edited by JSeery; 08-12-2019 at 03:16 PM. |

WOW! $180.00 for a set of eight? There's gotta be a better way.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
I did some searching today and found a set of 8, brass adapters, for $39.52 shipped, out of the UK.

Re: 18 to 14mm Spark Plug Adapter.
The 4.6/5.4 kits are expensive but well worth it. The other options are not good. But no experience with other applications, so no idea there.

Something to keep in mind is the need for heat transfer. Heli-Coils are a loose fit and I don't think transfer heat good enough. If a spark plug can't transfer heat to the head as intended, it will overheat and cause pre-ignition. Inserts like pictured are far better. I agree with your plan! No need to have a plug or two blow out miles from home! And those heads are not going to know the difference between a 14MM plug and an 18MM. |
