Default filler tube???

Guys, what gives with this filler tube near the front of the intake. I've never seen anything like this.

Didn't COEs have an oil filler tube up front like that?

Or for a rear engine bus where the engine is mounted backwards. Would make it a little easier to add oil .

I think it's a Canadian intake manifold....

1947 Mercury One ton Pick up truck

Yes Canadian V8s have them. All NZ assembled V8s have em as we got our cars CKD from the Ford Commonwealth plant in Canada....at least on the 46/48 cars. Mines got one. This "phallic" appendage can be done away with by a simple blank off plate. another bit of useless trivia is the ex Canada 46/48 cars came here with an alloy intake.

Ps: we never got the 41/42 cars, being a "British Empire" country in those days FOMOCO NZ had switched to war production by then, but as V8COOPMAN says in the later post, the alloy manifolds on the cars I have owned are marked with the 1941 production numbers he has quoted.

Grame and petehoovie are correct. Not that my confirmation matters.

As noted previously, Canadian production. Used on all Canadian-built V8s between '41 and '48. Part C11A 6520. I have a NOS example in my stash that I got many years ago from a guy in Wisconsin. DD

There is also one on the pickup I recently got from Canada. When I first saw it, I assumed it probably was for a larger truck so a person would not have to reach over the top of a high fender to add oil especially if he was a "shorty" sort of fellow ? One more problem was the former owner added an alternator which has a larger OD case. Bracket was not seated correctly in the front of Intake. I pulled the filler pipe out so the alternator would be sure to seat right and then reinstalled the tube . You might put a hair between them if you took it from a bald guy !

Just when you think you don't know about flatheads, this one comes along and confirms it.

Quite the dichotomy. If the guy is bald there is no hair to take.
