Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
I have successfully installed and secured the floorboards in the floor of my Model A, I am onward and upward to my next project.
I have placed the Shift Cover Plate in place. The cover plate is held in place with clips. The clips are held in place with rivets. My questions is, What is placed against the head of the rivets, which are now under the floorboard, in order to smash the end of the rivets on top of the plates with the rivet tool? I can not figure how to secure the head to allow me to hit the other end. Thanks, |

Re: Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
I think I would make a dimple in a piece of 1/8"-1/4" strap steel to match the rivet head and, lay it on a solid surface I could hammer on. Place rivet head, mounted in board, in the dimple and set other end of rivet with proper tool to roll it over. Good luck.

Re: Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
I understand, but please understand, the floorboard is mounted a foot or so, above the floor. It is also at an angle. It can not be laid on a solid surface.
There in lies my problem. |

Re: Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
If your trying to do it mounted in the car I don't see it happening.
If you don't want to take them out I would just use some short screws. Bob |

Re: Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
You can get rivet type devices that are two parts one drives into the other and wedges in they look just like a rivet. I got them with some stuff I bought . I have some somewhere so you will have to look around. Or use screws that have a male and a female look in Mc Mastercarr. JMO. Jim T.

Re: Shift Cover Plate Securing Rivits
I have found that there are well made floorboard clips and badly made clips. The bad clips are too thin, too flat and will not slide over the metal plates without some fooling around. The good authentic are thicker and slightly curved to allow the metal plates to easily slide over the metal plates. The good clips are made like Ford made them.
