If you "toss the board", how do you do it with one person?

Or with help, how are you consistent?

Adjusting the brakes with the temperature method is very consistent and you don't need an assistant.

I get close with the board, drive and coast to a stop, check the temp (make sure they are not rubbing), then use the brakes and check temp.

That’s the first time I’ve heard of this method. I need to check my brakes before driving to the Morgantown meet. I think I’ll try it.

I went through this nightmare until I realized the shoes were setting too low inside go the drum. In other words, the circle that the brake shoes and the drum were not concentric. The shoes were in 100% contact with the drum, at the bottom! But hardly at all anywhere else in the arc. Problem? The Front Brake Roller Track has worn away and this lowers the entire brake assy. Solution? weld and grind them or replace them. Another side of this problem is wear on a locked Roller Pin head. When the Roller Pin shaft gets crapped up and can't turn, the head wears on one side and this wear will lower the whole assy. Solution? Get new roller pins. Having just discovered this problem on my 29, I'll be ordering new parts this week.

A temperature gun is a great diagnosing tool. When I rebuilt the rear in my coupe I was advised to it by Tom W. (RIP) and it worked beautifully. The temp never got over 100 F., Brakes were hot on the right side and that was how I found out that the brakes were in constant contact with the drum.

I tried the temperature method of adjusting my brakes tonight. So far, I’m pleased.

Toss the board. Adjust as you would a later hydraulic system. Then drive and adjust. Not hard to do.
