1930 Ford Model AA truck
Geetings fom Maine. New to this forum and Model As. I am curently looking at a 1930, Model AA, heavy duty truck with dump bed. Dual tires in the back. My purpouse for getting this would be just to have some fun tinkering on it and driving it around town (3-6 mile or so radius). It would also serveas a means of advertising for my woodworking side business. My current plan is to have a gentleman from the Maine Moodel A club, who is a mechanic with vast knowledge about Model As, to look at it with me this week. He will be going over it, front to back and giving me a sense as to what I will need to do o have done to make it safe and roadwothy.
I would like to hear from others familiar with this truck typeto let me know thoughts about myplans to drive it and experiences good or bad that might steer me more towards a lss heavy duty Model A truck. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Kieran |

Re: 1930 Ford Model AA truck
The AA should be fun and driving it for distances that short should be no problem, even if it has the low speed rear (6.6:1 versus 5.14:1). Most parts are relatively easy to find and the AA's share many of the same parts with the A's. The big differences are in the drive line/axles and frame. Good luck, have fun, and post some pictures if you get a chance!

Re: 1930 Ford Model AA truck
I think it will be a noble project to get her back to work. I enjoy using mine for hauling materials, parade and just cruising the back roads. The cabs can be a bit of a squeeze if your taller then most, and with the high speed gears I can get her to 50 mph without too mush of a sweat. Have your mechanic check the bottom of every pivot point on the rear suspension as this is normally where the majority of repairs are needed. Be sure to check the AA forum sites as well for extra info. Good luck!

Re: 1930 Ford Model AA truck
I have an early '30 AA Stake bed truck that came out of Iowa. Slow and steady, but will pull stumps in granny gear. Great fun to haul folks in for events and giving the guys at the local hardware a thrill when I pick up something. Just remember, everything is several times heavier than on the A when you have to do some repairs. Loads of fun though.
