Body blocks, body bolts.....putting it all together.
I am putting my 1929 Special Coupe back together after it's been sitting in pieces for several years. I didn't pay attention when taking it apart to remember how the body bolts and body blocks go together. I've looked at many, many postings but still can't get my mind around it. I am getting new body blocks (with instructions, hopefully), but my question is: are the body blocks bolted to the frame, then the body set on top, with other bolts holding the body on? Or do some of the body bolts go through the body blocks? I'm just missing part of the puzzle in my mind.

Re: Body blocks, body bolts.....putting it all together.
I have Les Andrews book, I can see the diagram, but it does not answer the body bolt question if some body mounting bolts go through the mounting blocks....or all of them do. Would the mounting bolts go through the body holes first, then set down through the body blocks when the body is lowered on the frame? I don't have the Vol. 6 of Restore Your Model A yet.....maybe that one would fill in my mental gaps.

Yes, bolts down through body, then in through the wood blocks, splash apron, welting, and frame.
The wood blocks have rubber pads that should be tacked to the bottom side. |

Re: Body blocks, body bolts.....putting it all together.
Tom (or others) would taking the old blocks out and replacing the rubber pads be of any redeeming value? My coupe handles bumps like speed bumps or road segment lines with quite a bit of noise that sounds to me that the body and frame may not be quite as tightly affixed to each other as necessary. I don't see any slack in the body bolts but haven't really put the wrench to them either. Blocks look sound but who knows, maybe some deterioration is hidden from casual observation. I get a lot of rumble sound if on anything but the smoothest of asphalt roads. have lined parts I can reach with sound deadener and insulation inside, but haven't searched the cause under the car.

Check the body mounting bolts for tightness, and check all steering and suspension parts for wear. |
