Default early and late transmission

hello- i have a late trans but is badly rusted--i can get a used early trans, with its shift tower, u joint with its inner and clam shell.

correct me: it looks like i can take all the parts out of early, change shift forks shafts and change inner u joint cap yes or no?

any other advice appreciated

So you are building a 30-31 transmission? If so, keep in mind that the u joint clamshells between 28-29 have a different bolt pattern than the 30-31 clamshells. So you need to use the appropriate inner flange. Do a trial fit before mounting to the transmission so you know for sure all the bolt holes align. I think the transmission covers for all years interchange, but others will know more about that then me.
