Default Just noticed this

I never noticed this in a door wedge before, a piece of felt inside. Would this be for lubrication? Or what?

I've seen a couple like that too, lubrication would be my guess.

I've seen that on repros. I make my own solid ones.

So if the hole is an oil hole to soak the felt pad in oil, what does it lubricate? Oil in the felt isn't going to get to the outside and lubricate the matching female fitting on the door.

The part is mfgd. By stamping and folding, and after Gary's comment I see mine has two oil holes, one on each side. Unnoticed before.

So, what grade of oil and brand is best? What viscosity, would 600 work better? Last but not least: what's the service interval?

I use Shell 30w non-detergent for my dovetails. You can get a discount price on it if you buy a 55-gallon barrel directly from your local distributor. I got an additional 10% off for being a senior. Once a year seems adequate. I only use it on my door dovetails, though. I put detergent oil in my engines.

Are you sure that'll be enough oil for the dovetails?

It should last for the rest of the year, at least.
