Default Last year for side mounts on Ford passenger cars

Quick question, A friend asked "What was the last year for side mounts on Ford passenger cars?" (Outside my narrow field of vision)

That depends on whether you're talking about American production cars, or foreign production. I've seen foreign '37 with side mounts. DD

'34s in the U.S. and as Tom indicates, at least through the 37s abroad (primarily the U.K.).

Cannot fit a side mount on a 35. I tried with a rusted fender. Either the bottom is too close to the front tyre, or it sits too far back and you can’t open the door fully or it sits too high above the hood line and looks stupid. They are on a 35 Lincoln however!! I tried because I like the look especially on a phaeton.

Yes, you can and they did by raising it in the fender. Many would agree with you as to the appearance of the elevated spare and I would think that they would compromise lateral visibility.

I don't have a later photo handy, but the '34 below shows the effect.

Bill Sutton modified a 35 and did it in a ONE only car which I think was a 2 door
car . Saw pictures years ago! kx

in the old Nancy Drew movies, she drove a 37 Ford conv. with 2 side mounts, I always figured they were made in Hollywood just for that car
