Default The passing of Ron Rude

I just learned this afternoon that Ron Rude passed away on Wednesday. He was true Model A aficionado and a great contributor her on the Ford Barn. Ron was always eager to help with any Model A questions , especially on early '28's. Ron was a real authority when it came to early '28 Model A's. His Early '28 Light Delivery was a real unique vehicle that he first showed at the MARC National Meet in San Diego in 2011 and again at the MAFCA Meet in Reno this last summer. I really enjoyed our long conversations about early '28's and will miss them. Rest in peace my friend.

Ron Rude was a Model A man. Ron had so much knowledge about the Model A that I wish he would of wrote things down for all to learn by.

Ron was a dear friend of mine since I met him in 1986 in Sacramento. You asked a question, you had better prepare for a good long talk about any subject matter.

This hobby has lost another great contributor of Model A history and was respected by all who knew him.

Rest in Peace Ron...and tell Henry and Edsel hello for us.

Sorry to learn of this. I was talking to him approximately 6 weeks ago & purchased an early choke rod sleeve from him This is the 1st time I ever spoke with him. He was very gracious with his time telling me about his very early 1928 light delivery. I like the early cars & really enjoyed talking with him.
May he RIP. Condolences to his family.

Ron was definitely the most quintessential gentleman, and was always cordial in every way. He will indeed be missed by many. Below is a picture I took of Ron with his "1927" Delivery at the San Diego meet just prior to introducing myself. He acted like we were long lost buddies who had known each other for years. RIP Ron.

Ron was always my first stop at the Turlock Swap Meet every January. He was proud of the fact that he had space 1 in Building 1 and always had Model A parts for sale along with his welcoming personality. He will be sadly missed next month when we pass by "his spot" at the fairgrounds that he has occupied for so many years. RIP Ron

I will miss Ron. He was a quality person through and through. He loved his wife (who passed a few years back), his mother (who lived to 103+ years old) and Model A’s.

A phone call with Ron would last a minimum of 30 minutes. He would talk about what he had learned while restoring A1276, his early ’28 light delivery. He would talk about the man he had met who worked on the assembly line while Model A’s were made. He would talk about the evolution of Model A’s particularly the early ones.

I visited Ron in his hometown of Quincy, CA. After a long drive down a winding river canyon you would get to his place. He always kept himself busy with projects at his home. In his 80’s Ron would talk about the work he did on the steep hillside behind his house to reduce the chance of it catching on fire. I remember that towards the end of a phone call that year he said something about being sorry to cut the phone call short but he needed to shovel his mom’s sidewalk.

In 2011 Ron and I roomed together at the San Diego national MARC meet. This was the first meet that he brought A1276 to. Though he did great work, it didn’t score what it could have because he restored it, not to the Judging Standards, but to the way he found it. In 2017 he told me that he was going to make some changes to it for the Reno meet. For San Diego he did not have an enclosed trailer, so he brought it to San Diego from Quincy on an open trailer. To protect it from road debris he placed a 4’ by 8’ sheet of plywood in front of A1276. By the way, Ron and his son donated A1276 to the Smithsonian Museum.

Ron had a good heart and was a good, good man. His last name was Rude but he was anything but that. He always was considerate of other people. I will miss Ron.

Hello all,

I'm Ron Rude's son David. I just wanted to say thank you for all the great thoughts about my Dad. He did have a love for all the Model A he restored and helped other with.

The 1928 Light Delivery that was his last project is being donated to the Model A Ford Foundation Museum at the Gilmore facility in Hickory Corners, MI.

The museum is a wonderful place to place this unique car so that other can see and enjoy a piece of our history.

Thank you again for all the great comments about my Dad

Happy Model A'ing

David Rude

David, I'm glad you joined up. Your dad was definitely well thought of by many of us, -and I had heard the delivery was going to the museum. That is beyond exciting. Is any of his other Model-As staying in your family??

I saw the "For Sale" on this forum for the early pickup recently.

Feb 5. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...highlight=Rude

I went back and downloaded all Ron's pix which were posted before. This one may be the model for my "huckster to use up parts" (Currently the 60 percent Model A in my barn.)

Very sad news indeed. I never met Ron in Person, but over the internet you knew he was a great man.

The 1929 Roadster is going to my Nephew in Alaska. The 1930 Deluxe Coupe was sold to a couple who knew my Dad and Mom. They live in Idaho (Gary and Lynne Allan).

David,

Thank you for bringing us up to date on your dad's Model A's. I saw them all and sure enjoyed the visits I was able to do while your parents lived in Quincy, CA. They will surly be missed.

He took me for a ride in the Light Delivery once...I will never forget that.

I remember the time I was at their house in Sacramento...He showed me the Light Delivery in it's unrestored and completly disassembled stage behind the garauge.

It is nice to know that it will be going to the Gilmore for all in the hobby to enjoy.

That is him in my avatair clear to the left followed by Mike Gooding, Steve Cicalone and myself at Gooding's in Idaho. Those were good times for sure.

My condolences to the family. I purchased a few items from Ron many years ago and he was very generous with his Model "A" knowledge as well as being a genuine Gentleman.
