Model A Pan Gasket
My set of gaskets have been setting on the shelf for sometime. The pan gasket when layed on the pan was off in the holes. It could be stretched to come close, the last hole was a big stretch and tore. My question, could you soak the cork in something to make it stretch? I know the new ones probably would have been ok, but I have some on the shelf I figured I would use. Any advise?

Water? Buy new, they're cheap and I wouldn't want to have to redo the pan gaskets if engine in the car.

I almost always need to soak cork gaskets in warm water for a few minutes, then pat off the excess water on a towel. You can do the same with the torn gasket and put some sealer at the tear.

Re: Model A Pan Gasket
Aford,
Spray the upper surfaces with 3M spray trim cement before soaking. Then, later, spray the block with the same stuff, wait until it no longer feels "tacky" & amazingly enough, it will stick to the block. (Don't spray the gasket again after soaking) Bill W.
