Your 27 cover is more rare than one for earlier years maybe instead of destroying a rare cover why not find or trade for what you need?

Unless you have the wide brake drum installed, the 1926/27 shaft for the brake pedal will not line up with the narrow brake drum. The centers are different. Seems to me you should be able to install it. There was extra material added to the block for the ears to mount to, the rest of the block should be the same. You can't just drop it straight down, try sitting the rear down first then swing the front down over the flywheel. You also might relax the ball cap retainers bottom mounting bolts if it is installed, so there is room to rotate the cover in back.

Red face Re: 27 trany cover mount to a 24 motor?

Thank you both very much for your replys and time and being willing to help a dummy. I think I have at last seen the problem. It is not the lugs at all, it is the pan support on the drivers side that is catching the cast moulding on the starter hole at the very bottom of the cover, as I now see it I have to pull the motor , trany, pan as a unit then add the cover, reinstall it all as a unit,as the 15 chassis is too narrow at the pan support area to allow the cover to be added with the motor and trany in place, any way I will give it a shot and see what happens . Thanks again for trying to help a dummy!!! This is the UP side of being retired, no big rush plenty of time and it gives me something to do,thanks again ! jim

Since you are building from bits and pieces why not find an earlier cover? I didn't think the T chassis were different for different years but never sure. I had an '18 and could remove the cover for band changes while the engine was in the car. with your setup it will be a pain to renew the bands,

Jim, if you're interested, I have a few. With and without starter provisions.

I have always heard it called a "hogshead" FWIW.

I am going to repeat as you do not state, you can not use the 26/27 cover with the narrow brake drum.

I give up! I now believe these two will not mate, the 26 is just made 7/8 '' of an inch higher than the earlier hogshead and I don't see any way to do this that would be doable and end up with a decent result. If anyone out there has done this I sure wish you would let me know how you were able to get it done. Iguess it is time to hand it off to my son if he wants it or some one else if he dosent. It has been a good ride and its been fun, I just cant hand crank anymore. jim

I think you just need to take a break and do some reading up on band changes. that is where you will find good info on hogs head R&R. I have a '20 with a 4 dip pan.
