Finding Popout Key Number
Is there a way to find out the popout key number from a duplicate key. I can take a high resolution closeup photo of the key if needed.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
The key cuts could be figured, then you would have to go through the 500 + codes to find the number--- perhaps it could be done with computer, post some pictures- I do have a metal measuring tool to figure key cuts

Kurt in NJ: Thank you for the offer to help. I'm posting two photos of the key. I hope you can find something.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
What year pop-out ?, 28/29 look on the side of the lock assy.. 30/31 look at inside base of key hole, both should have a # with A--- That # will give you a base to start with..

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
I find that the code A1504 corresponds to Ford 31/32 antique.
The associated blank with that code is C1098A. The increment is .0150. Spacing is .0930. We can determine depths and spaces if you can mic with a vern caliper to accurately prove the cuts to be 24224. In any event, you can see if a C1098A blank matches the milling on your key and copy it for spares.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
On another forum there is key cutting information. This link will not work until you replace .XXX with .com.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
Guys, the best I can measure with my calipers is(starting at the tip of the key with a spacing between peaks at approx .082") first peak=.222, first valley=.202, second peak=.225, second valley=.212, third peak=.237, third valley=.216, forth peak=.230, forth valley=.205, fifth peak=.225, fifth valley=.216 and last long peak at heel of key=.248
Here is a better photo of the key:

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
Looking on eBay for keys, I have noticed that a lot of the keys are stamped with the cutting codes and not the 4 digit key code number, like item #273431355729 which has a stamped number of 23211.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
This might help, should be five groves. You do not need to measure the peaks. Have you tried to find the number on the switch?
Some keys only have 2 - 3 - or 4 cuts, looks like yours has 5 cuts. |

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
Guys, I took the photo of my key and did some measurements on that photo. The uncut key width was .725" which equals .250" on the key. I then measured the 5 cuts and came up with 1=.625=.215, 2=.575=.198, 3=.625=.215, 4=.615=.212, 5=.575=.198. So the actual depth cuts are the final numbers above. Assuming some wear they would decrease to 220, 205,220,220,205. The key code would be 3-4-3-3-4., but there is no key with that code. The cuts are the .015" increments of depth, so assuming no wear and using the closest depth match you get the same numbers 220,205,220,220,205. So the closest match is 2-4-2-2-4....key #1504 as previously posted. Doing these measurements and trying to find the right key is confusing to say the least. Thanks to everyone who posted. I am now on the hunt for an original #1504 key.

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
Your key is very similar to a Cole-Hersee series used in early ignition switches and is very similar to Yale Y-13 and Y-14 Blanks. Also, interestingly, it resembles the milling of a GM B-10 blank which was used from 1935 to 1966.
In any event, depending on what you are looking to do, I would recommend taking your key to a nearby live person LOCKSMITH. With your key in hand, he or she should be able to search inventory and help you out. Locksmith does not mean Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. with their fancy electronic duplicators. Best of luck !

Re: Finding Popout Key Number
the model A`s B1 & B2 I would NOT buy a key until you have a cheap blank cut that number a make sure it fit, or you can buy a uncut numbered blank from A&L and have someone duplicate your key.
