Default 1940 Ford cowl assembly

What years will interchange with a 40 cowl vent. I'm bringing a street rod back towards original in many areas. My cowl vent has been welded shut and filled in. Anyone out there with experience in doing the same? I'm thinking that cutting the cowl vent surrounding metal out and replacing it with a functioning vent. I have found some 41 to 48 vents but don't known if they interchange.
Thanks,

That's what I was going to say, I thought the 38s were the same.
