1933 model B water pump leaking
Just when you thought everything was rosy.....It's always something!
What are my options? Is there a leak less rebuild kit or is that only for Model A's. |

Have you tightened the packing nut a little?

Small leak, many on here say Barr's stop leak works.

You can do it without that special wrench.

Yes, but you run the risk of buggering up the die cast zinc nut. The wrench is dirt cheap ($2?), why not wait.

I ordered an original wrench for 6$ postage paid! No rush.. I have to install my exhaust manifold anyway. And try to see how the existing fuel line is attached to the tank. Is that connect visible or hidden under something. The things ya Gotta know! |

You likely will not be able to see it well from beneath the car. There's an access plate in the floor underneath your car's rear seat cushion. It is directly above where the fuel and air lines attach to the unit in the tank that creates the air pressure that operates the fuel gauge on the instrument panel.

Re: 1933 model B water pump leaking
Loosen the packing nut ALL the way so there is space between the
nut and the pump. Go to the hardware store and get some graphite or Teflon packing material that's less than 1/8" in diameter. Looking from the front of the engine toward the radiator wrap 3 or 4 turns of the packing clockwise around the shaft. Clockwise so the end of the nut helps tighten the packing as you tighten it. With the fan belt loose tighten the nut until you fell the packing drag on the shaft. If the nut go's way into the pump loosen the nut and add more packing and readjust drag. This should be good for a few years with small adjustments if it drips. G.M.

Re: 1933 model B water pump leaking
Or...you could buy a 'leakless" packing nut from one of the Model A vendors. They sell them in Zinc or Brass finish. I believe the Zinc colored one is correct for your '33.
I have had one on my '32 B for years......... still "leakless". ME....... on the other hand...not so much......

Re: 1933 model B water pump leaking
Well to remove the old one you need to take the pump off and remove the
fan to get the shaft out. Bob |
