I really hate to say this, but a few years ago, someone was making complete, running new engines for Ford 8 & 9 Ns (I 4 FH) for $1875. This is a new Casting/block. But it was in China! Yes those friendly folks on the Yangste who are trying to bury us. I can't find the company name or catalog now, but they succeded the old Central Tractor inc, of Iowa (new name) The shouldn't be hard to find on the internet or in the website, Yesterday's Tractors. Good luck!

Some research yesterday gave me the name, It's Valu-bilt tractor parts But researching their product list didn't reveal the engine I was talking about, but then the new format didn't reveal much of anything. But to those who have no problems with going offshore, somewhere in China there's a foundry that has experience in casting something mighty like a Ford A block.

Thanks to the wisdom and foresight of the EPA all foundry's in the USA have been shuttered, the last being several years ago.
I worked on a project (1995-1998) with the US government and private industry, focus was on foundries, particularly the casting of engine blocks and their emissions, took air samples for a week at a time during pouring/casting, went to several State side and several overseas Ford and GM sites, we did our own lab work and wrote our own report...summary:

US facilities were by far cleaner, producing less particulates than any of the oversea operations. Don't know why we wasted our time, their minds were made up before we left..."close all US foundries"
All new engine castings come from overseas, for the US market they are coming out of Mexico. Mexico City and Toluca complex's.

We can do in NZ if interested , freight could be expensive but by the container load, we have a very good foundry here & have spoken with owner in the past & was told , should be no problem . That's cast iron , If Terry wants to proceed further can arrange that . summertime here.

Edlebrock has their own Foundry in San Jacinto Ca. I'm not sure if they do Cast Iron though, they do Aluminum.
Lodi and Soundcast both pour Cast iron in Ca. I don't care for their quality much though. Stateline does quality work. China does have good Foundries along with cheap no good ones.

The cost of the freight would be compensated for by the exchange rate. If enough are done, I'm sure freight per unit could be brought down to a reasonable figure.

Have him try Silverton Foundry, Silverton Oregon. 503-873-6826. Ask for George. They have a good reputation for grey cast iron, though I have not used them myself.

I know that Tom has had work done by Silverton Foundry. I think there might be at least one other in NW Oregon. Send me a PM and I will get you the contact info for Tom.

It's not hard getting parts cast in SoCal, it happens everyday. It sounds like he has some strange tooling that isn't very intuitive. He spent "between 3 and 4 hours at Globe Iron Works explaining how each core box worked and how the core assembly was made."?? We usually ask the foundry for input on how they want to pour the part, then design tooling around their input. Then drop everything off at the foundry and let them figure it out. If your tooling is so complex that it takes a half a day to explain it, you're doing it wrong.

I doubt finding a different foundry will help. If the 4 or 5 he's already been to can't do it, then 4 or 5 more probably won't help.

If you can not find one in the US try Grainger & Worrall in Britian (Telford, Shropshire) it is a very modern plant and they cast the majority of the racing blocks used in NASCAR.

On the other hand there are several people in the process of making new T and A blocks now so why even spend time, other then it's good mind exercise, to re do what is being done now.

I am sure there is someone in the last year that has been posting updates on the progress of the blocks he is casting. The mold could be modified by removing the extra webs and make it a 3 main block.

The first link is from 2008, are they available to the public?
The second link refers to Tod and we know his are not ready. The thread also points to the T block from 2006.

Your last one is from the same guy this thread is about, Terry but the "update" is from 2013.

For information's sake, I have another block in the machine mostly machined, but near the end my machine's monitor took a dump and I had to take it out and send it for repair. I didn't want to try to machine anything without being able to read the actual machine data on the monitor. Not worth ruining anything. So, when that gets back I will finish this casting and have Prus Jr. build it. 2 more blocks are ready to be cast and production fixturing is mostly finished. The final machining program is complete.

If anyone wants to know things about my projects, email me, or PM me. I will not be posting here unless I feel it is needed.
