Default Unscientific temp measure

I mentioned in a previous post that heat and humidity were high here now in WV. I remember my dad checking the radiator temp of his old pickup with his hand. If he could keep his hand on it for a second or two, he would declare it OK and on we went. I do not remember too many boil overs. If he could not keep his hand on the radiator, we stopped for a while and added water after a cool off. Don't think he used anti-freeze in the summer. Any similar unscientific methodology out there?

Good method. I found that the temp that you could just hold on to is around 150 degree F.

I used a similar method for electrical components. If I could keep my hand on it, it was O.K.

I just ran a 15 mile test on my Roadster. Could keep my hand on the radiator afterward - with some heat! Seems my flow is OK. I respect the scientific approach, but love the old ways. How did we get by back then without modern technology? I miss the old car ads and info - some hype then - nothing to compare with modern ads! Just remembering. Yes! BW
