Default Look what followed me home today

I think I got a good deal on this car even though it doesn't run. I bought it in Pa and it followed me the whole way to Va. The pertronix dist. the former owner had installed a year ago froze up. I removed it and the oil pump drive. I'm not sure yet but I think it stripped the camshaft gear. I was told it had low compression one one cylinder.

I'm crossing my fingers with you that it is an easy fix. The large cam gear is most likely fiber and are made to strip out easy. Without the gear who knows where the valves are sitting.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Just totally mechanically restored one ...... bumper to bumper.

With a good body, good paint, and good interior, just look at a parts catalog .... mechanical bumper to bumper repair equates to peanuts.

Nice car, good luck, don't forget to change out that 29 light bar for a 30/31, early bars make the lights sit too high and have a strange look. Good luck with the engine.

Sweet car.
What do you want to bet you'll have it running down the road before the first snow falls.
Have a feeling it's gong to be and easy fix for you.
I can tell by looking at it's face.
Let us know how it goes.

My pickup was like that when I bought it. Put the correct '31 light bar on it and it looks much better.

Yes Crate Motor I was going to post it on HAMB but figured I would be "put up a cross" as they sometimes have a different sense of humor!

The tires on this car are also WIDE WHITE WALLS... It is hard to see them as the sidewalls are so low profile!

I checked the camshaft and it looks ok. The roll pin was sheered on the oil pump drive housing. I took apart and freed up the dist. today. The gear is worn on the drive but it rotates with the cam. I will put it back together and hope for the best. I did check compression and #1 has none the rest are low. I just want to hear it run for now. I'll let you all know more when I know more!

I got the engine running. The oil pump drive gear is worn enough that at times will skip a tooth. The cam gear doesn't seem to have any wear.
I just wanted to hear it run for now. It started so fast it amazed me! That's all for now!

Good Job.
I know hearing it fire and run for the first time put a smile on your face that could not be wiped off with a wood file.
