Default Tudor Stamp marks?

Tudor owners ; has anyone ever noticed any stamp marks on inner door or on the floor metal subframe? I do not mean the body number & letter but any other random letter such as a 'B' etc.
Anyone with a stripped Tudor body may be able to help here, thanks.
Cheers
Tom in NZ.

I have a stripped 29 Tudor body, in fact I'll be working in it today. I'll be on the lookout. Do you have any more info on what I'm looking for?

Tom,my 30 Tudor front cross member on the drivers side between the driver seat has this stamped 55B 5698

This is a Nov 2018 correspondence with Dave Sturges:

Jim,

I was going through some of the many submissions on the project I have

been looking at for way to many years now. I ran across your submission

via the above email address. I am fairly confident that your 1930 Model

A with cross member number 55 B 5698 was assembled at the Pittsburgh, PA

assembly plant. I was at a car show here in Maryland over the summer and

one of the attendees has a 1930 Coupe with the body style classification

(45B) as part of the plant stamp like yours. I asked him if he knew the

history of his coupe and he said it had been his family all of it's life

and he said it was assembled at the Pittsburgh, PA assembly plant. I

just wanted to let you know.

Regards,

Dave

  • Dave has been collecting these sub frame numbers for quit some time and has been trying to put 2 and 2 together and answer some production numbers used by Ford

    Jim,
I know a good number of hobbyist like to know some of the history of
their vehicles. These numbers will give one a starting point in that
quest. I have two other 1930 cars with the body style indicator as part
    of the number.
I am now convinced these are production numbers for each assembly plant
and may be by body type. The Pittsburgh may have used some other method
other than the body style number for the 1928 and1929 years. Steve
Plucker seems to think the body style indicators were not developed
    until 1930.
Thanks for sending me the info from your Tudor.
    Regards,

Thanks ; what I am looking for is any random letter stamp on the door metal panel that holds the door latch & window winder. There maybe a B stamp mid panel. Also , on floor cross piece that front seat legs attach, there maybe a letter about mid way.
Jim, thanks for that. That is the body plant number but the 55B prefix is unusual ; I have had some contact with Dave Sturges in the past.
I am seeking info on who stamped Tudor panels which I believe was Budd. This is not to be confused with the various assemblers of bodies for Ford. Cheers Tom in NZ.

My 30 Tudor is stripped inside and I remember seeing something stamped in the cross member in front of the driver seat. Next trip to the garage I'll check again and look at the door also.

My late 31 Tudor has two letters stamped on the floor followed by numbers but the interesting thing is the numbers have been in some way covered or erased.

Thanks for response from a long way back!
That is the factory & body number. The letters will tell which factory if you are in US or Canada. If you live in Aust. the '31 Tudor did not originate there & did they do a Tudor in USSR? Probably, forgetting to pay back Henry his loans. Cheers Tom.

Actually, a couple of dozen Tudors were made in the USSR, but my car is a USA made one. Is there a list where I can check what factory the "AX" code stands for?
