Default 33 Cabriolet window frame "support rod"

I do not know what it is actually called

The lower U channel of the window frame also has a rod with threaded ends and special beveled internally threaded brass screws on the ends.

I am in need of the screws. I can thread a piece of rod to replace the rod, but i cannot find a fastener like this.

It is almost like a bicycle wheel spoke nipple.

any help?

I had a similar problem with my cabriolet.
I replaced the rods with stainless steel and threaded the ends.
The nuts originally brass, can be turned from solid stock brass to get the 45 degree shoulder and drilled down the centre while still in the lathe and threaded.
The head has a slot.
I butchered a small screw driver by taking a central piece out of the blade to enable tightening of the screws.
Hope this helps.

33 Cab window . Assume you are talking about the slotted head tube nuts at the base of the glass . Never had one of these apart so the rod bit is news to me .

yup, that attaches to a rod that goes to the other side.

"tube nut" is that the proper name for that fastener?

I had the same problem on a 35. I used brass countersink head screws and had them drilled through, tapped and the threads removed. The countersink angle did not match the frame and the heads had to be sanded flush to the frame. Suggest you save what you have cut the rod remove with the nut attached and then can apply heat to the nut and remove. Good luck. You can also try countersink head brass rivets. I think you will have the same problem I had. Do save as many originals as possible so you can use at least one on each window frame.

Millersgarage do you have a picture of the nut and have a set of calipers to get a size? I have some but not sure if they are correct size.
Thank you

@terry,oh I tried, but could not get the bottom channel off without removing the rod..
One side the rod was rotted out, but the other i ended up damaging these "screws" getting them off.
I did think about drilling and tapping a screw.

and @hop_up, i will get some photos and specs later when i am in the shop, thanks

So are these sleeve nuts ? As Auveco made them and believe they still do. The ones I have handy are 6-32 thread. I have some larger ones but will have to dig them out.

very close, but the threaded hole goes all the way thru.
8/32 thread.

found it after searching

https://www.fastenright.com/wp-conte...-Nut-Steel.png

Auveco's website has no listings for Sleeve Nuts

If hop up or anyone else has them in 8/32 drilling the rest of the way and tapping it should give you what you need .

Seems " sleeve nut " is a better answer than " tube nut " !!!

At my local hardware store and they did have sleeve or tube nuts. At the time I did not look to see if they had 8-32 or if they were brass and plated or in steel. Having them drilled through is not a big deal since the rod can not extend past the end of the nut or it will interfere with channel.
