I have a 30 Coupe with a model B engine and a Miller Head and Miller Carb. I need to remove the engine to do some Crankshaft work. Does anyone have suggestions on how and where to attach an engine hoist to remove the engine. I do not wish to pull the head, but will probably remove the manifolds. Thanks for any guidance that you can give.

I use a 1/2" nylon (?) rope strung under the water inlet on the left side of the block, over the hoist hook and under 2 of the manifold studs on the right. The manifolds must be removed first.

I pulled my model B engine using the spark plug hole eyebolts available from just about all vendors. #1 and #3 holes were used. I left manifolds, distributor, carb etc. on with no issues. The only thing I pulled was the starter. BTW, don't do like I did and leave the rear carb linkage attached....that did NOT work well at all, LOL. The two bolts at the upper flywheel housing that attach the linkage should be removed (watch for the shims).

I also recommend getting a load leveler so you can tilt the engine as you pull it out, that made things much easier for me doing it single-handed. They run about $30.

Kawagumby, that will not work with a Miller head because spark plugs are on the side of the head.

I loop ropes around the front pulley and between the back of the sump and flywheel housing in a figure 8 coming up and over the arm on my engine lifter. I've always done it that way no matter what car.

If your feeling brave you could pull off the valve cover and use the rocker arm shaft
to hook to. Used to do that on BMC motors, but they weigh a lot less.

Thanks Synchro, I may try that. Sorry Dodge, that sounds a bit to risky for me. Where would I get replacement Rocker shafts if it went south.
