1947 Coupe wiper motor
This is my first time posting and I'm sure not my last on Ford Barn.
If anybody has removed a vacuum motor from a 47 coupe, I sure would like some help before I dig into it. The switch in the motor does not reverse the direction if that is suppose to be how it works. I've tried running miracle fluid through the motor but still you have to turn the control knob off and on to get the wipers to travel back and forth. I can't figure out how to disconnect the arms from the motor. Phil |

Re: 1947 Coupe wiper motor
there is a clip on each wiper arm link to the vac. motor, with a spring between the two clips on pins. the holes in the clips are key shaped. the spring between the clips pull the clips together. pull the clip away from the pin(outward) and it should come off. repeat for other side. note which wiper arm link goes to which pin as if you don't the wipers will operate upside down(try to go down instead of sweeping across the glass). Ebay has a pic of the spring clip on a vac. motor. search 1947 ford wiper

Re: 1947 Coupe wiper motor
The motor is pretty simple to remove. Like Fordor41 said the spring clips come off to remove the arms and then two bolts remove the motor. There is a cover that comes off on the front of the motor, you'll see a cam in there that should flick back and fourth to reverse the motor. It's probably dry, just add some light oil to make it work smoothly.

Re: 1947 Coupe wiper motor
Here is some pics of the wiper motor from my '46 Coupe, that may be helpful.
As mentioned in a previous post, don't mix up the connection of the links. |
