Default Alternate Door Panel Clips for 30 Coupe

The door panel holes are wallowed out to about 3/8" diameter. They will not securely hold the original metal clips. Has anyone found metal clips that will work for the larger hole or modern style plastic clips?

Weld or braze the holes and re-drill, or just re-drill offset. Maybe bigger clips are out there somewhere.

The holes in the metal door frame are fine. The problem is the holes in the cardboard upholstery panel that hold the clip heads. The fabric is in near perfect condition and I don't want to make new panels.

"IF" you can gently pry the fabric back just a bit you might be able to contact cement veneer to the panel. Take a hole punch and make new holes.

Maybe clear plastic washers under the head of the clip.

the holes in your door are a little over 1/4" the holes in your door panel should be offset to the holes in the door. go on eBay and look up Mopar door panel clips. I have used some similar to item # 323755523366 but are made for a 1/4" hole

Doing some searches, it seems the 1/4" were used only on early VW Bus/Campers and some Volvos and are no longer made.
VW parts supplier has the 5/16" but says holes must be slightly reamed out to use them. I really don't want to do that.

that is correct. years back I had found a box of 50 that was for 1/4" they worked great on my A400 and didn`t pucker the upholstery like the wire clips do. even though they are not made anymore they are still out there.

I don't see any upholstery panel clips/fasteners in their catalog.

I think I will try gluing a strip of wide tack strip material on the back and punch new holes through it.

Then, I need to find some decent clips. I've tried one style from one of the suppliers and 2 different styles from Auveco. Compared to the originals, they are all heavier gauge wire, the wrong shape, too long, or all of the above. I've tried bending and/or shortening with little success. This is partally the cause of the holes widening.

You may want to look around with some older auto upholstery shops in your area. They may have some stuff stored away.

If you've been thru an Auveco catalog not sure what you're going to do now.

Problem solved!

A. I started with Auveco 11406
B. Using a screw driver spread open the "C" head a bit to account for the larger hole in the panel.
C. Cut a small amount off the legs for the top 5 holes so they would not bottom out on the window channel. Taking into consideration the thickness of the panel, only cut off enough to prevent bottoming out or there won't be enough left to grab. May still need need to bend legs a bit.

Out of the box on left, modified on right

Perfect. That's the style I have on hand but with the caps on them. I pry the tops off with a pair of side cutters. Good move.
