Default 34 Coupe fuel pickup question

Hey guys, Im replacing the fuel tank in the 34 Im working on, and the pickup that goes in the tank looks like it at one time had a hose or something on the end that is outside the tank.
Is these ends just open to the atmosphere ? Looks like the big line, is mashed flat with a hole drilled in it, the small one, the one that connects to the small line running to the fuel gauge, is wide open,

The smashed one is the vent, the small line go's to the gauge and the large
one is a 1/4 steel fuel line to a flex hose that go's to the fuel pump. G.M.

Neither of the tubes where your finger is pointed originally carried fuel. The connections to the fuel line and the smaller one to the fuel gauge were the threaded ones on the right in your first photo and at the bottom of your second photo. It would appear that what you have has been modified.

Sorry for the confusion guys, yes I know, the lines with the threaded ends go to the fuel pump and fuel gauge, the ends where Im pointing to are in question .
Does anyone have a original one they could post a pic of, of a book with a pic, maybe a Ford service manual, or a Green book ?
Thanks again …
And GM, I believe you are correct, in the one smashed tube being the vent, so what is the other ? When I blow in this, air comes out the threaded line going to the fuel gauge ..

No as Dave stated the fuel supply line to the flex hose at the pump
comes from a separate 1/4 inch copper coated steel line from a
female 1/2"x 20 thread fitting on the front of the tank. This female
fitting has a pick up pipe that go's down near the bottom of the tank.
This supply line is a twin line with the small gauge air line soldered
to it. G.M.

Elwood, got a question about tank replacing, on a '34 Coupe, is it required to raise the body or just that "pan" above the tank when replacing ? This is for a pal, I'm a '32 guy myself. Vic

Its pretty easy Vic, pull the rear pan, and the little inspection plates on both sides above the shocks to get to the bolts ...
Easy out ...
