Never cared for the look of an engine being touted as good; sitting there with the spark plug holes open.

Saw a flattie in an old wood speed boat in the 60s just like it. Read about an industrial v8 used as a pump and it had the same type of manifolds & cooling system no radiator needed. Cool huh !

I converted a number of auto engines to marine use. IMHO the water cooled exhaust manifolds could be appropriate to either industrial (pending their safe or hazardous installed locations) or marine use. The key difference would be if the transmission has a reverse gear. Industrial conversions would normally have a transmission to simply engage or disengage from its function. A marine transmission (either mechanical or hydraulic) would have both forward and reverse gearing.

Wedge-shaped carb adapter plates can be used with inboard boat engines mounted mid-ship of the boat to correct for the function of the carb float and reduce potential carb leakage. An option I have used is what is called a "down-angle" drive unit which is simply a universal joint coupling enclosed by a housing located between the transmission and the propeller shaft connecting flange. This unit lowers the elevation of the engine inside the boat to better accommodate an engine enclosure box/deck and to correct the engine's angle to allow proper carb float function.

Both methods typically improve the circulation of coolant thru the engine block.

There was a lot of gear heads that got into boat racing back in the day. The Ford V8 was used in some pretty well built boats as well as race boats.

Had a home built 18 footer many years ago equipped with a converted 59AB.
Biggest problem was the water pumps that had rubber impellers that would get chewed up by debris sucked up from the river.
Spent time while drifting to replace the failed impeller with one of the spares that was always carried, that is until someone made metal ones to replace the rubber ones.
