Default Side shift transmission serial number ?

I have side shift transmission with pre-fix # 699 - a triangle -and then a bunch of numbers after that, and a star. Never seen one like that before. Any ideas. Thank you.

.

I'm not sure about the TRIANGLE, but the "699" sounds like 1946 serial number. DD

The "6" is for 1946 and "99" is for 239 V8 engine designation. The triangle it likely the top part of an "A" The VIN number also would have been stamped on the frame. It must have been later in 1946 production since a lot of the early ones didn't have the "6".

russcc .....I believe "rotorwrench" meant that the earlier 1946 model production cars did not have the figure "6" in the "699" prefix until later in the production year. I don't believe that he was referring to the early 1946 cars as NOT having the 6-CYLINDER engine.

Those transmissions usually came with a 28-tooth cluster, yielding a 2.82 1st gear ratio. Some applications had a 29-tooth cluster, yielding a 3.114 1st gear ratio. DD
