Default My Dad's new 1953 Ford Sunliner

Well right after I bought my Sunliner my dad started searching for one. He has always wanted a 53 convertible, and I guess he decided it was time. He found one online that was just what he wanted: black, automatic (so my mom would drive it), and a nice one owner car. Problem was we are in Washington state and this car is in Delaware. He called and talked to the dealer that had it, the dealer was nice and put it on a lift to show the underside and back up that there is no rot or repairs done. So my dad bought it. This was in July. Shipping proved to be problematic going this far, and where the car was, and after a while my dad finally found someone who would do it. But they drug their feet on picking it up. My dad really wanted this car to go on our E vs W flathead run, but that time window was quickly closing. Thy finally picked the car up and the week of the run the driver said they would have the car to my dad Monday....after the run. But said the car would be in Seattle Friday. So my parents rented a car, went and picked it up, did the run on the way home, and all was well!!

It really is a nice Arizona car, original owner until 2006-2007, and repainted/new top in the mid 90's. One guy bought it from original owner and had it until now. So not counting the dealer, my dad is the 3rd owner. It came with a huge stack of paperwork showing its life history of everything done to it. Interior is original. Runs and drives well. It's not perfect, but a very honest car, and my dad wanted a car that he's not afraid to drive so he is a happy man!!

Man am I jealous!!!

I'm trying to talk my wife into a car like that. She's thinking another Corvette or possibly a Mustang. I guess I'm lucky though, she seems to think our 45 1/2 ton and myself are the only old things worth keeping around but, I'd still love to have a car like that.

Nice continental kit on back, gives it a luxury look.

That was a dealer option, fake spare tire. My Dad is not too in love with it, but it bolts through the trunk so it'll probably stay for a while!

Very sweet! I took my first driving test in a '53 two door Mainliner. I was proud of the anniversary horn button. Love it.

I am with your dad on the "fake spare". I never liked either the real or the fake ones. However......that is one very nice looking 53. Excellent purchase!

Cool car Chris. Where are the photos taken? It is uncanny wherever those photo's were taken in the US it looks like it could be right here in New Zealand.

Personally, I like that Coronado rear spare tire kit. I think that it gives the '53 body style a little better balance. I hope that your dad learns to love it, too !
