Default Rotor discrepancy on 8ba flathead V8

I have a 239 ci 8ba v8 flathead I went to change the rotor on a tuneup and discovered that the rotor was larger than the distributor shaft! Someone took a beer can and cut a small piece of it to take up the slack ! Of course this meant it would run for a while and then just quit! After a few minutes it would start again! Has anyone else run into this problem? I am at the point that I will buy an Electronic ignition distributor to fix this . What is the best distributor to buy for a 1949 to 1953 Ford 8ba flathead v8? Or can I buy the right rotor?
