Default strange distributor

I have this distributor that's been on the shelf for several years. Ready to install on an engine on an engine stand just out of curiosity. Anybody tell me what it is. I think it will fit the A engine. No markings on it. 5 pictures. ken

I bought a Mallory single one time ... did not run correctly.

Turned out that someone had changed the stops on the advance and it was advancing too far.

Friend had Sun machine and he setup the stops to limit the total advance.

If smaller springs have been installed the advance will "come on" too fast.

I found that the Mallory A distributor and B distributor have different curves and stops as you expect with the Model A starting at 0 degrees and the B starting out at 19 degrees advanced.

Model a is part number 2301105

Model B is part number 2301106

If the red tag is still installed.

I found this PDF most useful ...

https://www.carid.com/images/mallory...structions.pdf

Note page 6 speaks of advance adjustment ... says 0 to 28 degrees. That is dist advance so it is 0 to 56 degrees on crankshaft.

Okay,...Benson is correct about setting it on a distributor machine. It can be corrected
and tailored to your engine.

Here are a few things to know..
1. What ever you do,...DON'T CHANGE THE SPRINGS !
2. The "keys" for changing the stops,..there are 2 styles, square and round. you need these. IF your engine is STOCK, no more than 20 degrees..
3. As I'm think about this,...you need to find a guy with a machine to set it! Setting the
mechanical advance and the springs for the curve. This takes about an 1-1 1/2 hours,
I've done this hundreds of times,..but you need a machine..
4. Dropping it in the engine is no big deal,..bring it up too TDC as normal, then set the
points to break by turning the distributor. Hint,..use a "test light" so you get it right, the
first time! A "mag buzzer" also works great..

Hope this helps..
