Default Varnish? on Huckster

What kind of finish do you Huckster owners put on the woodwork? Varnish? Spar Varnish? polyurethane? Urethane? Clearcoat? Oil rubbed?

etc? On initial coating and preservation and refreshing?

Some of the wood on my Special Delivery project is cut, sanded, drilled notched and is need of preservatoin before assembly. kenp

I have one of the Lentville A'S body on my huckster. It came with a finish already on it. But each year I try to put a coat of Armstrong "shine keeper" floor finish. This keeps the moisture from getting into the red oak. It is a clear type of coating. If I do it every year, it does a fair job of keeping the oak from turning black in spots.

Not sure what you would use on a Huckster, but I use good quality Spar Varnish on my truck bed, holds up extremely well if not parked outside all summer, for years.

Any finish that is exposed to the sun needs to have "SPAR" in the name. Plain varnish or other finish has no UV protection. Automotive clear coat can be applied to wood. It can be sanded and buffed to a high shine if that is what you want.

Thanks for the link. How timely for me. The bed on my truck held up great for 5 years, until I had to leave it parked outside all last summer. Finish peeled, wood got moldy and gray, just as described in this link. A light minimal pressure, pressure wash, removed the mold and freshened the wood some. Will have to remove the wood, bleach/water the wood to kill any mold remnants, minimally plane it, and refinish. The last post in the string is excellent, need to thin down oil based coating so it will absorb instead of only coat.
