Default Moog kingpins

I thought I would start a new thread about these American made kingpins for our old Fords. I have been piggybacking (or hijacking)on an older king pin puller thread, but the parts I just received deserve more than that. Moog is a suspension company of good repute. The old bushings I pressed out were a split bushing but these are a full circle type. Lots of bronze to hone before you get to the steel. Even the thrust bearings are American made. The bushings came wrapped in oiled waxed paper and they pressed into place nicely with my trusty old wilton vice. I already honed one spindle but when my son shows up to work tomorrow I hope to do a short video of the process and the pin dropping slowly under it's own weight. About 63 bucks on amazon, free shipping.

They are going into yet another jailbar tonner. This truck is getting a mechanical overhaul. It will have a low mileage H six and a T-9 four speed. These kingpins are not hollow, seems an odd place to save steel. Looks like this same set works for cars and 1/2 tons too. The 1 1/2 tons use a larger set.

In the past I have always sourced NORS and all the old USA parts have been nice quality. I was already buying some stuff on amazon, and decided to give these a try. I haven't gotten the spinning spoon video yet but I posted last night's video. It is just a bit longer than a minute.

My son took the spinning spoon video. I will post it to youtube. Really, you mechanical types already get how it's done... But maybe someday a chevy stovebolt guy will want to know how he can hone his kingpins and there, he will have it!

Odd, it says made in USA on the box. And the bearings...... I think my bushings just have a different look. Since when was MeHico part of the US? OH, of course there is Mexico Maine. Not to overlook Rome Georgia, Athens Texas and Paris Tenesee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caQ8a4hLiaM

Now that's exactly what I was talking about! So in Maine there are no 'supply chain' issues with stuff produced in Mexico or China. You just jump in yer ragged ol truck and pick it up in person.

Well, I didn't say Mexico was part of the US; I said Mexico was in America. You know, the North American continent, consisting of Canada, the United States as well as Mexico. The US is only a part of the continent.

Yes, but I only thought of that this afternoon. I even showed my wife my error and told her Mexico is in Central America, but thinking about the map I believe you are correct that it's even in North America. But.... The discussion was about being made in the USA. I looked on ebay and found other sources for the moog kit, same part number. The one I found said source of origin Mexico followed by parentheses around 'primary'. All I know is the bearings and the moog lable on the box said 'Made in USA', and looking at the bushings in the photos and they don't really look like the ones I received. I guess it's just a mystery, but I think the truck should steer nicely now and wherever the set was made, I'd wager they will outlive this old geezer. I'd buy them again.

Maybe it was a town in china called USA. So it would be made in the USA? Just joking.

Probably going to be okay. Just came back from my home town that is built on a hog slaughter yard. I'd guess there wouldn't be any bacon coming out of that town if it wasn't for the south of the border labor. Well me and all my friends moved out anyways. Love me some bacon!

Maybe there are some issues we have south of us. But if you look at the demographic of people, they are christian and good people. We all benefit in making that area better and being friends. We have more in common than not.

When I worked in colorado as a roofer I hung out with the foreman's son. Them boys would go down to pueblo and pay to ride bulls on the weekend..

You make a good point Tinker.... Our economy here is hugely based on construction. Hispanic workers are fairly new here, like in the past 15 years. They have earned a tremendous amount of respect form their fellow workers and the contractors who hire them, and can be seen like clockwork on Friday nights sending money to the folks back home at our convience store's western union station. Thank you for reminding Me.
