Default 39 ford oil pan removal

I need to pull the oil pan from my 24 stud 221 cid 39 std to clean out the sludge in the bottom. Plan to remove radiator hoses and fan, jack engine, remove engine mounts, and block up the water pumps to get clearance over the crossmember.

Can I get enough clearance doing this without undoing stock style single exhaust and engine stay rods?

To get the pan out from under the car do I also need to remove the drag link and tie rod or just lower the wishbone by dropping down the ball under the transmission?

Thanks in advance!

I would remove the stay rods. Block the ball down. You'll need to remove the crossover pipe and starter. Don't forget that there is one oil pan bolt on the topside at the rear of the starter side of the pan.

Ken, in post #2, is 100% correct.
I'd like to add that yes, you'll need to drop the drag link as well as the tie rod. You'll also need to rotate the crankshaft to allow the most clearance near the front.
Removing the pan with the engine in the car is, in my opinion, a pain in the butt. In the "long run" I find it easier to remove the engine.

I removed mine this way too. It is a pain. Definitely remove the drag link and the starter. I jacked my car up to get more clearance, but I left it connected at the water pump mounts.

Now this comes close to home! I cut a finger off about eleven years ago. Went to Mexico the next day for a vacation.
The doctor was NOT pleased with me when I got back.

He managed to save the finger although most of the function is long gone.
