Default Fuel pump stand stripped threads

Open for discussion/comment:
Found out one of the mounting bolts on my fuel pump stand are stripped. Not much luck so far finding a new stand so far. So thinking a "Heli-Coil" might suffice. Opinions?

The Heli-coil works fine. Do it.

Take the stand to a local machine shop and they will have the stuff in stock.

We’ve repaired a few with the helicoil method.....should work fine for you. Before you invest in the thread repair, check the base for flatness. They’re often warped and rough.

I was going to mention about the flatness, but Mac VP mentioned it. I had one you could slide a dime under it laying flat.

Depending on yr. When installing. It's gasket, then baffle, then pump. If you do baffle then gasket you can bend the ears.

As another option, You may also be able to drill deeper and tap a longer thread and use a longer bolt ,

Had the same problem so I drilled the old threads out and tapped the hole to a larger size maybe 1/4", I don't remember for sure, then made a inside- outside threaded bushing from a steel bolt and threaded it in held by locktite. Works great and not much danger of stripping it out as the steel is tougher than the original casting.

Are good FP stands that hard to find now days? I must have 8 or 10 of them most35 - 40s, different years.32 replacement (stock ones bolted directly to the manifold), 33 and 34 are probably harder to find though.

I would try JB Weld first.

I worked as a machinist in a engine rebuild shop for many years and Time-Serts were used to fix cylinder heads, and motor blocks when the internal threads were stripped. That is what is considered to be the professional way to make a repair.
