Default Mac's Lockport, NY closed

I drove 240 miles to Mac's in Lockport NY today to buy parts for my 34 coupe.
When I arrived I was told that Mac's shipped all their parts to Florida September 1st and laid off 80 employees. There were no longer parts for sale in Lockport. The person behind the counter would not take my order for shipment from Florida. When I asked what he did all day he said "not much".

Likely most of you knew that Mac's closed September 1st. I did not.
I am posting this thread to inform those of you that, like me, didn't know.

Wow, sorry to hear that you wasted your time, gasoline, and wear and tear on your car. It simply amazes me that so many folks here-abouts continue to insist that us "car guys" are so lucky to have such a valuable resource as THIS outfit at our disposal. DD

Cool Re: Mac's Lockport, NY closed

I understand you can order parts on line and they will ship them from the Florida location to the Lockport store for free, so you can pick the parts up in Lockport without having to pay shipping.

Eckler leases the Lockport building from the MacIntosh family. Eckler is still paying the lease until it expires next year. The cartouche inventory went to Florida. No inventory of any kind left in Lockport.

Remember, if you pick up parts in Lockport, you will pay NY sales tax.

In called the Lockport facility 2 weeks ago , and a very nice & polite woman told me the same exact thing . However , I do believe you will have to pay NYS sales tax .
It still should be cheaper than their terrible shipping charges , in most cases , providing you don't have to drive too far to get there .

Really, don't we all know enough about Mac's? I have been a Corvette guy since the eighties, and the first thing I learned about Eckler's is to stay away from them. They're typical of large "American Distributors" today : outsource everything, advertise like crazy, and provide abysmal customer service. Listen guys, it ain't the Chinese doing this, it's greedy Americans. Harbor Freight is an an American company based in Calabasas, California.

It's my understanding that the Cartouche upholstery is still being manufactured in Lockport but you have to order it from Florida.

Daryl, Right after Eckler's took over, I called & ordered a few parts, and explained I would be picking them up, at a given time, due to time restraints .......When I arrived, I waited for my turn to be waited on, I explained I was there to pickup my order....that's when I was told, "they don't do that anymore" "you have to wait for your order to be picked, when you come"....haven't had anything to do with them since ......Thanks for the update.......

I no longer buy from Macs after Eklers took over. Shipping and Florida sales tax can be over 35% of the order. I've had frequent out of stock or sub quality parts purchase from them. When you call, they are not "Car People" but folks that are reading off que cards. Their sales promotions are lame, 5 or 10% off that doesn't even come close to covering their shipping and state tax. I bought from macs since the 1980s and in the final years was spending over $3k a year with them. They were my first and only choice for years, it's a real shame what they have become.

It is all Eklers now. They likely just have someone to answer the phones until the lease is up. Eklers' always wants to be the go to place but they have lost sight of quality parts and down home service. They are the corporate American way of ignoring the customer. The bigger they get, the harder they will be to deal with.

As far as Mac's is concerned, another one bites the dust.

I've found this to be the case when searching for my 74 Ranchero parts too...Ecklers got involved with Dearborn Classics...things are not the same as it was.

I quit using Macs a long time ago due to high shipping costs. Most of the other parts suppliers got smart and charge actual cost or Dennis Carpenter charges $10 or $15 fixed charge.

We have used Eckler's at our shop for non Ford parts. The only complaint is that they are slow in getting the stuff to you. For Ford parts, we use C&G. Even though we are in Iowa and they are in California, most shipments take only days from order to receiving here.

Can I ask what you are saying here? It seems kind of confusing. Also, when you are referring to the "hole country", are you reffering to the collapse at the NCRS museum in Kentucky?

This is the last place I'd go for parts, infact WILL NOT ORDER EVER AGAIN. 2nd last order I placed when I got there to pick it up wasn't ready, told "we don't put the order together unless you are here", very bluntly I might add. Last order I called it in, actually fax it, called and they said they got the fax, asked if they had all the items, was told yes, asked if it could be picked as Id be in a hurry as I had an apt to go to following pickup, she told me yes, will be ready, got there not picked, "we don't pick unless you are here," said I was told it would be ready, he said "you were not told that", fine, please pick it, I waited, missing my time for next apt, he came out with the order, incomplete, I said no thanks, stuff it where the sun doesn't shine and walked out hearing him call me a pr---.
