Air Filter for 13922 Zenith Carb
I just got a 13922 Zenith carb. I know a lot of you guys are using these. What kind of air filter should I use with it? And do I need to order the Air Cleaner adapter featured in Figure 4 of the enclosed instructions?

Skeezix:
Your post title refers to 13922 zenith carb but your text says 13993. Has to be one or the other? If its the 13922, how do you like it? Please report how it does installed on the car. I just installed one and think it needs adjusting on the high speed end. I haven't put a air cleaner on it yet. Thanks |

OOPS! That's a typo. On the box it says "13922."
Thanks for catching that. I can't give you a report yet as It's still in the box but from other reports I am hopeful. |

Has anyone come up with an answer to the original poster's question?

I haven't been able to figure out how to mount a cleaner; the exposed throat is short as well as narrower than the standard Zeniths. My one gripe about this carb is that it's a lot noisier than the original Z1. I would like to mount a filter not so much for cleaner but for noise reduction. I've seen a different model carb sold with an adapter. My concern with the adapters I've seen pictured is that they narrow an already-small air intake throat. Other surprises that might await you are that it's a bit harder to start; since there's no enrichment I find I have to hold the choke partly closed for a few moments to keep a cold motor running. Also, you've probably noticed that the original gas line connection doesn't work; I went with a rubber line. I've set the T-valve to 1/2 turn open; any further open and there was obnoxious surging and noise. I love its resistance to vapor lock and sudden-stop stalling. Steve |

Find a radiator hose that fits and it bent in the direction you need and mount your air filter to that. |

FYI, the same model of carb has been used on many applications, including Gravely tractors. But it is labeled and marketed as a "Model A Carburetor", so that is what it is. |

Re: Air Filter for 13922 Zenith Carb
The radiator hose is a really great idea. Sometimes the simplest one is the best, I made mine out of a 90* cast copper elbow, it just slips over the carb & needs 1 turn of electrical tape over the carb to snug it up & I used short self tapping screw to thread thru the elbow to hold it fast, & a large capacity inexpensive farm implement air filter with built in gasket that screws into top 1/2 of old Air Maze filter, with a threaded rod & wing nut. It works well but I love the hose idea too! If anyone wants pictures & info on the filter set up just e-mail & I'll send them.

And then there is another similar drawing from Zenith that says "Gravely Tractor", so I guess it's not a Gravely Tractor carb either. Sheesh! Enough! |

Re: Air Filter for 13922 Zenith Carb
Can you give me a pointer as to which one and where it can be found? I Googled for them and there are so many out there that I couldn't even hope to find one that would fit.
Thanks. |
