Re: Zenith Carburetor
Look at the top of this discussion under Webb sites. There is a listing for carburetor rebuilding.

Re: Zenith Carburetor
What model Zienth do you have? I have an #1 and did my own rebuild. The info was youtube available, service manuals and parts easy to get. If you don't find someone else to do the job, you get bragging rights with the DYI.

Or you buy one of theirs rebuilt, and send yours in for a refundable core charge. Inquire about turnaround/wait periods, sometimes they are lengthy (months) if they are backed up. Last edited by 30 Closed Cab PU; 10-23-2019 at 11:03 AM. Reason: typo |

Usually , the gaskets and the needle valve assembly is all that I need to replace as long as the jets are original . Renners offers flow tested jets . A lot of the repro jets are too short and will continue to leak , no matter what you try . Look up original jet length and measure the jets that are now in your carb . Original jets are numbered . If your jets are too short and are below the level of the gas in the bowl of the carburetor , it will leak . Advertised float level is 5/8s . I lower the float level a VERY SMALL amount less than 5/8s , so as to reduce the possibility of the gas sloshing in the bowl of the carburetor when coming to a stop . When the float level is really high , sloshing gas in the carburetor will cause the engine to quit running when a quick stop is made . I don't EVER drill out the passage plugs because of the risk of ruining the housing of the cast iron carburetor . Practice makes perfect . Good luck , whatever the choice !!! |

Re: Zenith Carburetor
Always use cleaned, correct length, flow tested jets on a rebuild. Ed

Re: Zenith Carburetor
I don't think that jets actually wear out and need to be replaced .
As long as the jets aren't obviously damaged and are original numbered jets , I clean and reuse them. If i'm not sure about the jets , I've got used original jets to compare them to . Otherwise I measure jet length . The main and cap jets are the jets where length is most important . If the cap and main jets stand lower than the level of the gas in the bowl of the carburetor , gas will continue to overflow these jets and there will be a drip . |

Re: Zenith Carburetor
Another thing to check is the number of gaskets under the main jet .
The main jet installs under the drain plug with a slot head screwdriver . After the jet is unscrewed check if gaskets are stuck and remain in the lower housing of the carburetor This is often overlooked Sometimes several gaskets will be stuck and remain in the lower housing If more than one gasket is used under the main jet it will change the klevel of the jet and cause problems with leaks Most good model A carburetor books warn about too many gaskets under the main jet . |
