King pin bolts 1932
Hello on my 32 spindles what king pin kit can I use to eliminate the top brake cup ? I see I can use a thin needle type bearing but would like to stay away from that.
I found a pair in the shop that measures 6" ???? Not sure what year I put them to hold spindle so I could work on backing plates and noticed a heck of a gap What goes in between the axle and the spindle ??? I'm new to this. Any help would be great Last edited by rust revival; 05-31-2020 at 01:28 PM. |

Re: King pin bolts 1932
on a normal 32 axle set up the ball bearing is on top of the spindle, then the brake cup above that.should be very little gap between the axle boss and the spindle, and thin shims were included in the king pin set. many folks cut the brake cup off and fill it with weld then grind it smooth. or, you get a 37 and up king pin and cut the bottom off to match the length of the 32. any will work if you match the notch for the locating pin to your 32

Re: King pin bolts 1932
I think you got it all mixed up. The spindles my be 35 36. Get a set of 37 or later square back spindles and use the king pins you have. JMHO
After looking at your picture all you need is a set on early king pins with mechanical brakes. You will have to cut off the cups leaving flat part. Last edited by jimvette59; 06-01-2020 at 10:28 AM. |

Re: King pin bolts 1932
I assume you have hydraulic brakes if you want to eliminate to cup on top of the pin. If you have the pins with no cup on the top they are the later 37-48 pins. If they measure 6" they are specifiaclly 42-48 pins.. By using those pins with the correct spindles you will also have to purchase a steering arm to bolt to the left spindle for your '32 drag link. Speedway Motors would have that arm.

Re: King pin bolts 1932
Not super clear in the Green Book diagram, but the bearing is #3123 and goes on top of the axle. #3121 is the felt and goes below the axle.
Not sure why TJ believes you need to add anything to the spindle? I use the 33-34 axles with later spindles, but a 32 axle would work just as well (just more expensive to come by! ). Unless you were to use an aftermarket spindles that do not have the arms forged into them. |

Re: King pin bolts 1932
32 spindles 32 axle non drop. I've converted to front hydraulic brakes so yes I do not need the stock 33 king pins with the brake cup on top

Re: King pin bolts 1932
I have used two sets of 32 king pins over the years. I just cut the cups off leaving a ledge to support the bearing. Worked just fine. A friend tried the needle bearings. He did not think it worked well at all. He found them damaged when he removed them. They could not support the load.

Re: King pin bolts 1932
I have used the king pin kit from Early V8 Garage with success on my 32 pickup. One of the secrets to a longer life is proper installation and keeping the needle bearings adequately greased. I needed them because I used MT Lincoln brakes and they made the installation easier.
