Thanks Kultulz, that helped. I've also got a picture from Chad, he's got the pass car valley with no opening at the rear. I making arrangements to get the whole works to him and suggestions based on my experience to repair/replace the cut off oil fill tube.

I didn't want to send him something that was bad from the start.

GOOD MAN!

Just for the record, and for anyone that's interested, PCV was introduced on the 292 Y-BLOCK in 1960 for PASS CAR and 1963 for LT. They were released to comply with area EMISSION LAW of the era.

A 2V and 4V system were used, the 4V (1963-64 LT) being the one you would want to emulate (IMO).

Kultulz I didn't have any parts to speak of. I basically started out with the block, crank, camshaft, rods pistons and heads. Pretty much everything else I have been scavenging from an old y block my uncle had and part of a locked up stripped down one my dad had. I bought new timing chain, pushrods, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, found a oil pan with the pickup assembly that fit, my uncle gave me an intake manifold, scrounged up some exhaust manifolds and whatever else I could find. It wasn't until assembly that I noticed the breather hole in the side of the block.

I'm using a borg warner t10 4 speed manual transmission that dsd had put in, in the 60s. Hopefully this weekend we will be joining it to the engine and dropping it in. We still have to rebuild the carburetor and work on the valley cover that Mike is sending. After this is done it needs everything done to the brakes as everything is shot.

The body looks really good.

So you are just wanting to power it now, no fancy stuff? Understood.

BTW - (IMO) You want a 292 block for any serious performance as although the 312 is the same casting, the machining protocols weakened the webbing considerably. Just find a 312 crank and rods and you will have it.

And finding a correctly calibrated PCV valve might be a problem as it will affect your fuel curve while trying to establish correct draw/draft.

ENJOY!

I have faith in you SIR. Everything is OK. I guess the reason to modify a separator as such is to allow a screw-in valve without using the cooling tube.

In fact, the OEM valve might work just fine.

Kultulz, I've never had a factory PCV valley pan. All mine were either custom conversions or aluminum covers I built. With baffles underneath for oil control. So I really didn't know what I had there. The valley pan was used for a mock up on an induction system, so I never ran it. It did come apart so hopefully he can find a valve that works for him with whatever set up he uses.

Both pans are the same other than using a draft tube or PCV, so what you are offering Chad is a good start.

You guys have to understand (well, I guess you don't) is that I am extremely CDO (OCD in correct alphabetical order) and desire everything to look OEM and perform correctly.

But I did learn from this thread (as I do all) the reason an adapter is modified in such a way.

here's how I added a PCV to my 292. after reading a lot as to whether it would work or not, I fab'd a housing like the pic KULTULZ showed of the separator to fit in the rear of the block. I removed part of the separator side and I added a round section to hold a PCV (SBF 302 valve). ran a 3/8" line to a fitting in the front of the manifold with an aftermarket separator after the PCV to catch any oil from entering the manifold. So far after I would guess 1000 miles or so I've caught about 1/2 cup of oil in the separator. Runs the same and didn't even adj. the carb. I know the PCV is working because I can feel suction on the oil filler tube and no more fumes. I fab'd a new separator housing because I didn't want to alter the stock road draft set up until I knew the PCV would work.
