Default dual master cylinder conversion for 1941 Ford

I am looking for a dual master cylinder conversion for my 1941 Ford.
Has anyone done this conversion? I would like to replase the single
cylinder with a dual one tha will fit in the stock location without
having to change the pedal arraingement. I checked with Speedway
and they have a cylinder that may work but it does not have the
tringular bolt pattern like the stock one. Also, the hight may be
larger beause of the bails that hold the cylinder covers.
Has any of you made this conversion?
Please help.

I don't know about the cylinder, but they make a 3 bolt to two bolt adapter.

Hi just an idea; I had a Ford that used a early 60's Cadillac dual drum master cyl. The brake tube sizes were the same as the 39-48 Fords. and the cyl. was mounted on the X member, with its push rod extended to the Ford linkage. I found a new replacement in the NAPA books. It was a '62 Cadillac, as I remember. Newc

Along with the above adapter, I think you want a 1968-1970 Ford Mustang master cylinder

You need to get a drum to drum master cylinder if your car has stock drum brakes , I think mine came from a ford of the proper period. The adapter I got off Epay, don't have the name any where I can find it. Sorry perhaps a google search would locate a vender. The master cylinder I have had built in residule pressure valves. You want that feature. I first set mine up with both internal and external valves. It would not work properly. took of the external valves and walla it works fine. Also note the position of the lines front and rear should be in that configuration. Good luck I convert all my old cars and trucks to a dual system a must for safety as far as I am concerned that is very important. Frank

This is a simple conversion similar to the picture posted. Most of us that sell old Ford parts stock this adapter, you don't have to look on ebay or do a web search, just use the resources available to you. Use this adapter in conjunction with a dual reservoir master cylinder from a 67-69 drum/drum mustang available at your local auto parts store..

That's it. As Dick said, most V-8 suppliers will have it.

It looks like the part # AS-2051 is part of it but I am not sure about the part that mounts on the other end of the adapter.

AS-2021 is the part you want, the others are for vacuum boosters.

All, thanks for the help. I have decided to stay with the single master cylinder.
IN 2009, When I up graded the brakes to Bendix style, I installed a new MC.
I have had no problems with it maintaining good braking. I was under the car
the other daay and noted that the hydraulic line to the right wheel had several
cracks in it. I am changing to a new line and while at I am changing both front
lines. I also gave thought to going with a dual MC. After reading all of the replys
and thinking about what needs to be done I have decided to stay with the single
MC. I drive the car very short distance (less than a mile) one day a week.
Thanks for the replys to all who responded.

Now that I have read Dick Spadaro's post I remember buying the adapator from Him. Dick is a great supplier and always a big help.

I've spent quite a time looking, and I would welcome to be proved wrong, but it seems a shame that there is no 1-1/16" drum/drum master cylinder available with drum type residual valves in place.

The Mustang cylinders are 1" bore, which can give problems if the brakes are not kept adjusted up. It would be great if someone could get one of the brake manufacturers to come up with a 1-1/16" bore dual cylinder that would be a bolt in swap for early fords, with three bolt fixing, the right size ports already tapped in and residual valves in place.

Mart.

Three friends had single system brake failures while entering/exiting their garages or driveways, sustaining serious damage. They also felt good maintenance would prevent any brake failures with their antiquated single system masters.

Mart.

While 1 1/16" drum/drum masters are kind of rare, disc/drum masters can definitly be used with drum/drums, and are somewhat more available. Ford used them from '77 to the eatly '80s on many F & E 250/350s as an example. I'm not sure if the bolt pattern is the same as the common Mustang/Lockheed adaptor, but could be checked out easy enough. External 10 lb residuals would be needed as most/all masters from '75-up did not have internal valves for the drum circuits.

Is there a way to tell if your master cylinder has internal check valves
